Baritone Rutger van Oeveren (1994) studied Early Music at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he was taught by Xenia Meijer and Maarten Koningsberger. Currently, he studies with Xenia Meijer and Marcel Boone.
Rutger is a sought-after soloist. He appeared several times at Radio 4, performs in- and outside of his home country, the Netherlands, and appeared as a soloist under the baton of Ed Spanjaard, Paul Dombrecht, Julien Chauvin, Adrián Rodriguez van der Spoel, and Jos van Veldhoven in concert halls such as TivoliVredenberg (Utrecht) and Muziekgebouw (Amsterdam). This season, Rutger will make his debut at the Recital Hall of the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam).
Several times, Rutger appeared as a soloist in the Duruflé Requiem and in Mahler’s Rückert Lieder. Spring 2016 he created the role of Jonah in the opera De Tempelberg (2016) by Nina Fukuoka. He also appeared as Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosí fan tutte and the Drunken Poet in Purcell's Fairy Queen. Rutger worked with directors such as Jeroen Lopes-Cardozo and Floris Visser.
Moreover, he has a great liking for song repertoire, regularly performing recitals with Wouter Harbers and Jaap Kooi.
Rutger took lessons and masterclasses with Elly Ameling, Margreet Honig, Robert Holl, Peter Kooij, Charles Daniels, Wolfgang Holzmair, Véronique Gens, Roberta Alexander, Henk Neven, SinanVural, Sasja Hunnego, Don Marazzo, Alexander Oliver, Johannette Zomer, and Claron McFadden, with famous song accompanists such as Roger Vignoles, Eugene Asti, Susan Manoff and Julius Drake, and with early music specialists such as Eduardo López Banzo, Fred Jacobs, Teunis van der Zwart, and Shunske Sato.
Moreover, Rutger dedicates himself to corporal mime and acting. He was a visiting student for one year at the Mime School at the Amsterdam Academy of Theatre and Dance, took mime courses with, amongst others, Thomas Leabhart, and appeared in several successful performances. Fall 2019 Rutger is taking acting classes at Washington University in St. Louis.
2017, Rutger graduated in a philosophy major from the VU University Amsterdam. He currently studies in the research master at Utrecht University. Fall 2019, he is a visiting student at Washington University in St. Louis.
